Earlier I had to relog into Second Life as I had forgot to pay my rent.
I couldn’t be bothered to get back out of bed and put pc on so decided to pick up the laptop and do it.
My god!!! I’d forgotten what it’s like to use a machine that doesn’t have a SSD.
Wading through treacle is the most apt description I can give.
Moral of story? Pay your rent.

Shouldn’t be like that. Not after you logged on. I really used some incompetent machines in my times as a n00b but never, never ever, did the hard drive/SSD have influence on my lag hell. It’s just not part of the SL experience, if you don’t save snapshots on it or get graphics uploaded from it.
But in general you’re absolutely right:
It’s the year A.D. 2020 ffs! So nobody should use …
– spinning hard drives as their system drives
– less than 8 GB of RAM
– Intel processors
– Microsoft Windows
Why ppl make their lives unnecessarily complicated and painful just doesn’t compute with me. 😮

Yep it was painful. The laptop has some great things but it’s dire watching it take its time loafing apps.
I’m so used to my SSD pc which starts everything in a flash. May get laptop looked at and see what can be done to it to get it running faster

Ugh, if it takes time loading apps that are stored on your machine it’s the HDD, or the old processor architecture, not fit to run today’s powerhungry Windows. I thought you were complaining about slowness in SL, which usually doesn’t touch your storage at all.
Install a nice lean and mean Linux, should speed up that museum piece of yours.

Weirdly it’s a good spec laptop, just rubbish slow. Everything runs slow on it BUT Sansar and Sinespace fun fast.
So, something isn’t right there if they can run fast. After work I’ll log onto it and add the specs here. Maybe you may understand it more than me as it drives me batty

Oh yes, please, send me the specs and I’ll tell you how old your craptop is and if you’d need a new one and can turn this old one into a superduper Linux machine that will give you good service for years to come!
