A bird in the hand

Actually I never had a small bird like this in my hand but wanted to tell you about the geese!

I live on lakes and have a stunning view of the lake and the wild life here. I do feel very fortunate.

I never ever grow tired of the view and the beautiful creatures that inhabit my local area.

However, I still after 14 years can not cope with the appearance of a family of geese cornering me by the bin store.

They have a habit of taking me by surprise and I turn into this timid human talking to them as though they’re little people and hoping they listen when I say “shoo off you go”.

They are often walking along the footpath, crossing the roads or frankly having a jolly party on people’s lawns.

Anyone who lives here has to appreciate their freedom and that the they own the land. Photo of them below the credits.

  1. Ah dear, geese will gang up on unsuspecting visitors to what they think is their territory. I used to keep Aylesbury ducks at one time and they were just as bad. The only folks they liked were the ones that fed them. Maybe that’s the answer… have a few treats in your pocket and throw them the other way when you want to use the rubbish bin area.

    1. Excellent plan. Or carry a let’s cook duck book with me do they see it an run for the hills!!!
Lol kidding. I love geese they’re adorably nosey. However the size of their poo on the ground does amaze me. When they decide to go into the air they have been known to cock themselves and aim at our patio windows. A right hard one to clean let me tell you.

      1. Oh yuck! I use Dettol surface spray but they are difficult to remove because they are acidic and dry fast so if you can get to them quickly it’s easier. We have no sun here today at all!

      2. Probably wants feeding! Did you see the latest Sheba cat food advert? Made me laugh… when the cat hypnotises his owner into “Feed me, baby!”
