Hello Dolly

I’m sat here on the sofa watching Hello Dolly and seriously when did they stop making movies like this?

I generally am not keen on musicals at all. BUT give me one back from the earlier times then I’m all over it.

I have always been a Streisand fan and Doris Day definitely one of my faves. They just bring back memories of nothing but enjoyment and enjoying a film to just disappear. Apparently sexually discriminatory too.

Now days everything seems to have to convey a message or conform to some kind of mantra about life etc etc. Don’t get me wrong but frankly I never watched a film and believed that being a woman in those films was going to shape my life as a woman .

You know how you are taught growing up is how you shape your views and then having emotional intelligence just seals that.

Whatever happened to disappearing and just enjoyment? You can’t now. Now you have to analyse and dissect to be sure that you understood the hidden message and can take that forth.

Well not me. I just watch, enjoy meaninglessly. Then snap back into life.

I don’t see anyone conversing about slasher films and dissecting their meanings and scrutinising that potentially our kids are going to grow up to think it’s ok to cut up people. Do you?

No I thought not. So I’ll enjoy my film now and take it as it was intended, escape and amusement.

Just like my avatar, I disappear and then pop back to life.

  1. Oh, a friend after my own heart! Being an “old soul” as my grams calls me I must say, I WAS influenced by those old fabulous, love stories, lavish musicals and just entertaining films of the 40’s 50’s 60’s, 70’s too. Perhaps that’s why people perceive me as a lighthearted person, I guess I was inspired/effected by films like those in my attitude and of course by my loving close knit family environment. Once I remember seeing the remake of The Planet Of The Apes I was horrified at the ending, with the Statue Of Liberty laying broken on the shore. At that moment I realized hollywood is trying to instill some warped since of what our future might be. For myself I can’t have that frame of mind, films that depict a sense of helplessness and darkness aren’t for me. Give me a “Pillow Talk”, “Three Coins In A Fountain” and “Random Harvest” any old time! Hugz my friend great subject I can go on an on about it!
