I carried on working today longer than normal. The odd 15 minutes here and there I’ve noticed is becoming habit forming lately.
I spend all day wishing the day away and when it comes, I’m holding back from logging off.
Honestly I’m clearly at odds with myself. Though deep down it’s my sense of knowing I want to get ahead of myself so that when I’m overloaded I don’t feel I’m losing control. I’d rather have that safety net attitude than not.
Also logging off leads me to the sofa and the television where the news is kicking off terribly in Israel/Palestine. It’s affecting me and worrying me and I’m so shocked that this is going on.
You see I’m booked to go to Palestine on the 25 November. I’m part of a congregation going out to visit the Palestinian people in the refugee camps in the West Bank. I knew it had its risks as visiting this area has never been without risk. However now it’s escalating so fast that I really don’t know what will be happening on the 25 November. My ticket is in my email, passport ready and even clothes put to the side.
I had an email today from the Palestinian leader of the congregation, it’s not cancelled. We are basically waiting to see if this escalates or worsens. Our safety is of course paramount.
So it’s I guess wait and watch and hope that no more lives are lost.
It makes me sad that in 2023 no lessons have ever been learnt about violence and such. War is one of humanities weakest practices.
Hamas is not an organisation of people that represent the average Palestinian who wants to live in safety and peace. Israel also does not reflect the average Jewish person who too also want to live in safety and peace. Divisional apartheid solves nothing.
There’s always someone who benefits from the divides of the people. Someone who orchestrates the strings so that these things are never resolved.
In the meantime I’ll pretend this is a normal day and I’m grabbing lashings of pizza for dinner today.
