I was trying to be arty in this pic.
You know when you see something on your screen and it just works? The lighting is perfect, the mood feels right, the outfit comes together exactly how you imagined it, and for a moment you’re convinced you’ve created something special. That was me last night
I had put together an outfit, well right clicked and “add”. The colours, the styling, the setting around my avatar, it all felt cinematic. Sitting there looking at my screen, I could see the story the image was telling. It had atmosphere. It had that little spark that makes you think wow I’ve cracked it.
So naturally, I hit the export button.
And that’s where things went slightly wrong.
What appeared in the finished image wasn’t quite what I’d been looking at. Somehow the exported picture flattened everything out. The depth disappeared. The lighting felt different. The subtle details that caught my eye on my pc screen seemed to fade away. It wasn’t a bad picture by any means, but it wasn’t the picture I thought I was taking.
I think that’s one of the strange challenges of virtual photography. You’re not just capturing an outfit or an avatar. You’re trying to capture a feeling. Sometimes the scene in front of you feels alive, but translating that exact moment into a static image is much harder than it looks.
So while this picture may not perfectly reflect what I saw in that moment, it still reminds me of it. And perhaps that’s enough. After all, art isn’t always about perfectly recreating what you see. Sometimes it’s about capturing a glimpse of what made you stop and look in the first place.
Still, next time I’ll probably spend another twenty minutes adjusting the camera angle and lighting before I hit export.
I don’t use photoshop to replicate what the mood was so unfortunately you get what you see. Not what I saw.
