The older I get, the more I realise just how beautiful love really is.
When we’re younger, perhaps we think love is all about butterflies, excitement and grand romantic gestures. But as life teaches us a few things, I think we start to see it differently.
For me, love is much more about the little things. It’s feeling comfortable enough to be completely yourself. It’s having someone who makes you laugh, who listens to your stories, who notices when you’re quiet, and who genuinely wants to know how your day has been.
I think what I want from love now is something real. Not perfect, because none of us are perfect, and life certainly isn’t. I want the kind of love where you can laugh together over something silly, sit quietly without feeling awkward, and know that someone is there because they genuinely want to be.
I’ve learned that love isn’t always easy. Sometimes we give our hearts to people who aren’t able to hold them carefully. Sometimes relationships end, people change, and we are left wondering whether opening our hearts was worth the risk.
Because despite the hurt, love is still one of the most beautiful things we get to experience.
At this stage of my life, I don’t think I need grand promises or some fairytale version of romance. I think I would be happy with something much simpler, someone kind, someone genuine, someone who makes me smile, someone I can be silly with, and someone who chooses me just as I am.
Maybe that’s what growing older teaches us. We stop looking for perfection and start looking for connection.
We realise that the best moments aren’t necessarily the big ones. Sometimes they’re sitting together with a cup of tea, laughing until your cheeks hurt, holding hands, sharing a look across a room, or simply knowing that when the day is over, there is someone who is happy you’re there.
And perhaps that’s what I find so beautiful about love. It’s not about finding someone to complete you.
It’s about finding someone who makes this already complicated, sometimes messy, occasionally ridiculous life feel just a little bit warmer.
And I think, no matter our age, we all deserve the chance to experience that.
Just my thoughts for today.
