So Apparently I Might Be Sun-Kissed… by a spot of Skin Cancer?!

Exactly one week ago, I walked into my GP’s office thinking, “This will be quick.”

Just a little skin thing. Probably nothing. Maybe they’ll laugh and send me home with a pat on the back. Liz (aka Isa) being over dramatic.

The GP did not laugh. In fact my ten minute appointment turned into 45 minutes.

My GP gave that concerned look. You know the one. The head tilt. The pause. The “let’s just get that checked urgently” tone. Measuring every inch of my rather robust flesh with all its moles and dodgy lesions. ( I have quite a few which happened overnight).

So, it’s not just one. This is the part that is worrying me. my face, my arm and both my legs show issues.

I was put on the NHS Two Week Skin Cancer Pathway before I even had time to Google what that actually meant. It’s exactly what it sounds like. Urgent. Fast-tracked. Scary.

And now here I am, with an appointment at the hospital booked for 24th July, trying to act normal while internally spiralling. My insides are up and down. I did google, I did join a skin cancer group on Facebook. Yes I did.

Never google I was told. Did I listen? Nope. scared myself sh*tless.

Nerves? Through the roof. Appetite? Suspiciously focused on comfort snacks, Pringles from TikTok are currently my thing. Skincare routine? Now includes staring at all parts of my body taking selfies of these little residents.

But honestly? I’m glad it got taken seriously. I’m glad the NHS doesn’t mess around with this stuff. I’m glad I didn’t brush it off any longer. Which I will admit I had.

If you’ve got something on your skin that’s new, weird, itchy, crusty, changing colour, or just giving you a bad vibe, please go get it checked. Worst case, it’s nothing. Best case, it’s something caught early.

In the meantime, I’ll be nervously counting down the days and resisting the urge to turn into a full-blown google detective. But I think that’s too late now. I did.

I’m not above naming the suspicious patch’s suggestions welcome. Currently leaning towards Melanom-aybe, Agent Dark Spot, Patchy, Crusty?

Updates coming soon. Stay SPF’d and suspicious of all your freckles, moles and just anything.

Meanwhile I’ll sip my coffee here on my virtual balcony in my Azure dining set from Chez Moi.
