You know those mornings when you step outside and the air is already giving holiday brochure before you’ve even touched your tea?
That’s today in Kent. Sun blazing, 26 degrees, and frankly it’s giving Mediterranean dream, but with a side of British reality (which, unfortunately, does not include a pool).
I inhaled the warm air this morning and immediately thought, Why am I not sprawled out on a sun lounger right now? This weather demands to be enjoyed horizontally, preferably with sunglasses on and an icy drink within arm’s reach.
Instead, I’m indoors, tethered to my laptop, trying to convince myself that working is the responsible thing to do. Meanwhile, the sun is practically whispering seductively through the window, Come outside, you’re wasting your prime tanning hours. The balcony looks offensively perfect.
If I had my way, I’d be by a pool feet dangling in the water, massive sun hat on, pretending I don’t have a single responsibility in this world. Maybe even making questionable life choices, like finally starting that book I’ve been meaning to read since last summer.
The sun would be gently roasting my shoulders, and every now and then, I’d grace the pool with an incredibly lazy float or a dramatic splash just because.
But no. I’m here. Hydrated. Grateful. Bitter.
If you’re currently reclined on a sun lounger, cold drink fizzing, living your best life, I hope you know that I both admire and resent you in equal measure.
Because today in Kent? It’s a doing-absolutely-nothing-by-the-water kind of day.
