Its funny every year is the hype for Valentines most countries around the world. There are some I am sure who do not venture into this day but on the whole its commercialised everywhere we look. Its more a Christian/Catholic thing if you want to go into its origins. But heck I’m not going to give a history lesson today.
Funny when I was young, back in the olden days, it was not so commercialized at all.
In fact it was about simply making that gesture to the one you liked but could never tell. Now its about the gift more than the sentiment. God help you if you dont remember on the day if your love was expecting said gift!
The true idea of valentines to me is about love and just recognizing that the person you are with or you secretly want to be with is important to you and taking the extra time to let them know. No it doesn’t mean a new iPhone or a new Prada bag. It means the little things. For me the little things are a cooked meal made by said love and perhaps time out walk alone and just being in the zone. Simple.
I have never ever had a valentine. Well not since the one I got when I was 17 years old from the boy at school who turned up at my front door with a card and a pen wrapped up. In the card was his picture in his school uniform sitting on his leather sofa grinning.
The pen was a joke one. A lady in a bikini and when you turned it upside down to write she lost her clothes. Honestly I did find that funny back then but even so I appreciated it. No I didn’t like him back sadly. He was not the boy I was smitten with.
But that was the only real true valentine I have ever had.
I was married and he was awkward. Every year the statutory bunch of flowers bought at the local Tesco garage on the way home. But it was not a true valentine as it was done because everyone did it.
So yes I have only had one real Valentines surprise in my life and still waiting for Mr Right.
I am getting the feeling that Mr Right doesn’t really exist and if he does, he really isn’t looking for me. So on Valentines I am going to love myself. I am going to treat myself to a good meal, naughty chocolates and some Jazz music while I love my cats. Followed by some soppy movie to remind myself that I should have sent myself a card a few days earlier to tell myself how great I am.
If you are like me, join me and do the same. Dont just do nothing. Love yourself and have a jolly good day. So regards the Valentines Shop and Hop Event. Go treat yourself!!!!!

Tell me about it! Even if the guy does everything the right way for 365 days, God forbid he forgets one day that is reserved in a Calendar. Love should be expressed every day of the year.

I totally agree it should. I do laugh as some of my friends get all upset if they don’t get what they expect in the day. I’m like hang on it’s not Christmas!!! Don’t get me started about Christmas presents lol

I don’t like holidays. I do like the meaning, but not the commercialization of holidays.

Same. I love the holidays for time with loved ones but the commerce side has always troubled me

I will definitely be loving myself (and my mum and sister) on that day, because that’s what really matters to me. (I call it Singleton Appreciation Day.) I wonder what St Valentine thinks about being a noun? 😛
Fingers crossed, I *might* be performing at Second Pride’s V-Day event in Second Life, otherwise I’ll be doing my usual things. I may go to the Shop & Hop when it’s quiet, to be honest I’m more interested in rainbows than hears because that’s how I roll these days. 🙂

First I love this outfit in the photo! Valentines Day was a big deal when I was a child in school. The teacher would made a very lovely Valentine’s Day box decorated beautifully (it was used for the students to deposit their Valentines for the other students) each of the students were assigned to make a smaller box (usually from a shoebox) decorated in a Valentine theme to receive our Valentines in. One or two boys were delegated to deliver the Valentines to each student’s Valentine box. There was not only Valentine cards but some of our parents would send in treats; cupcakes, cookies, lollipops, red foiled wrapped chocolate hearts, Sweethearts, Candy Necklaces, you get the idea. It was a lot of fun to see if the boy or girl you liked sent you a special Valentine. In 2nd grade I got my first kiss from a boy on Valentines Day too (it “wasn’t” fun since I was very shy, got embarrassed and the other students teased both of us afterwards. LOL ❤

Aww that sounds lovely. See the fun and innocence. Not the ridiculous things I see people buying.
To me that what you describe is what it’s all about. Letting a special someone you know you rather fancy them ❤️

Yep things were simpler and life was a lot more kinder than it is right now. Awww you mentioned having children . That is another exciting part life to get to. Even if you don’t, damn well furry friends are too.
Lol I may give my cats valentines snacks and see if they know it’s me! 😂 x
