It was meant to be one of those calm, ordinary Saturdays.
The kind where you potter about the house, do a bit of cleaning, and feel vaguely accomplished for it. I decided to tidy the living room and give the TV stand a proper clean. Nothing major, just one of those satisfying little jobs that make a space feel fresh again.
But as I was wiping one of the glass shelves, it suddenly shattered. No warning, no sound of a crack, just a sharp, shocking bang. It was over in a second, but the noise and the shock of it made my heart race.
Tiny shards went everywhere. Across the rug, under the TV. For a few minutes, I just stood there trying to process it, how something so harmless, so routine, had turned into chaos in an instant.
Once I calmed down, I started the slow, careful job of picking up glass and hoovering, over and over, just to be sure every last piece was gone.
I guess it’s a reminder that even quiet days can take you by surprise. And that sometimes, all you can do is clean up the mess, make yourself a tea, and carry on, a little more cautious, but still grateful nothing worse happened. Apart from my one cut finger which is covered with a plaster. You can see my disaster here
