Our value

I woke up about half an hour ago. It’s just after 6pm in reality.

Oh I went to work at my desk today, but felt like death incarnate.

You know, sore throat, dizziness. But as I work from home I figured I’ll just work in my pyjamas and blanket.

Dumb move. Don’t know what I was thinking.

I just felt worse sitting there.

You see here’s my dilemma, with all the pluses of working from home. Fact is you feel guilt if you need to ring in sick, when you feel sick.

It’s hard to explain but I’m in the confines of my home, so technically if I’m sick I could potentially work because I dont need to get dressed, I have everything I need around me.

I feel guilty being sick.

So I worked till 2pm when I realised this is dumb and I finally signed off.

Part of me feels guilty letting people down if I could have hung on another two hours, the other part of me knows logically if I worked in the office, I would have called in sick.

But that’s the working from home dilemma for me. The feeling of having to prove the worth behind it.

I feel much better for that 4 hour sleep. I still have a sore throat etc. But dizzy has gone.

So I guess the reality is, we should listen to our bodies and do what they need. Otherwise our value in being “present” is negligible.
