I made a video on you tube as a 25 second rant last night to the price increases on the second life platform.
I said I’m sucking it up buttercups. In case anyone doesn’t understand what that means.
It means exactly those words. I don’t like a price increase, who does. But in the real world of economics and the dollar, it happens. That’s democratic world.
So because I love what I do, and the people around me in the community , I’m accepting an increase.
At the end of the day we are a very lucky community to have what we have. Freedom to express, freedom to do basically what no other worlds can offer and the freedom to make money and take it out. In life everything has a price.
Has anyone considered that discord for groups would make sense. Subscriptions instead of groups?
Has anyone considered that Linden lab is a real business that provides us with this platform and as a business they need to ensure they generate income and profit to remain competitive in the commercial world.
Has anyone considered that staff have to be paid. Has anyone considered that if prices don’t increase to generate that income we don’t get improvements.
Everyone speaks of community yet all I have witnessed the past 24 hours is meanness to those who may not agree and vice versa.
Community is about banding together no matter what your personal differences are and supporting each other. It’s about when the times are tough, helping the people struggling and picking them up and supporting them.
What I’ve witnessed is too much negativity and not enough of community.
I’m the last person who accepts cuts. I’m a loyal trade unionist. But I’m also bright enough to know that businesses have to do what they do in order to sustain. Let’s help sustain the community not pull it apart.
