One Billion Rising

We all have a story to share. Be it one we directly have experienced or one someone close to us has.

I grew up the daughter of a psychologist, well thought of, charming man.

From when I was a child right until I left home at 18, my brothers and I were on the sidelines of his physical abuse of my mother. He was also abusive to his children.

I grew up thinking all families were like ours but also at the same time learning slowly they were not.

You see not all situations are easily seen. Abuse happens in all sorts of backgrounds and financial settings.

The education of young girls and young boys is so important in the instilling of values and how we look after each other. How they treat each other.

Remember: Despite what many people believe, domestic violence and abuse does not take place because an abuser loses control over their behavior. In fact, abusive behavior and violence is a deliberate choice to gain control.

There is no excuse.

A special thank you to Jackson Redstar, Foxykrystin Evermore, Miky Oyen and Aisha Convair owner of Designer Showcase who helped perform the dance.
