It started yesterday and today my throat feels like a razor blade has cut at it and my nose is like a faulty tap that can’t switch off.
It’s funny when you look forward to time off and a chance to recharge your batteries, it’s also at the time when your body has reached its lowest.
I am as the saying goes, undergoing the lurgy.
It’s 7.26 am here and I’m babysitting from early this morning, in 4 minutes and cooking a lunch for friends.
Frankly I wish to slide into my bed right now rather than do anything.
Christmas is not even sorted as I haven’t had much of a chance to make the things I planned to make, because no moments alone to do so.
Still, shopping in the pixel world seems to me a far better idea. Happy Xmas everyone.

Christmas is just around the corner. Literally, it happens in 6 days, give or take some hours depending on where you are situated in the world.
This year to me feels incredibly different from all of those before and by now the Christmas tree with the lights would be up and I would pop out dishes of nuts and chocolate for visitors as they drop by.
I’m not feeling it. Not one bit.
The reality is, that right now in this moment in time all I can see is what’s going on in the world and the whole idea of presents and lots of food and twinkly lights are not really mattering to me much at all.
I have always felt an intense feeling over the years growing up about how I get to enjoy things and there are others who don’t have that same fortune at all. It still bothers me now.
This Christmas due to my own financial constraints as well as that sense of guilt I feel I am making my presents. The idea being that the gift I give is that which I spent time making with love and appreciation of the person it is given too.
So, I have been making soaps and bath bombs (which I have now turned into Fairy dust) because, Im useless. I will over the next few days be making body washes, handmade biscuits and chocolate and maybe event body butters. Depends if I am brave enough to do the last one.
These are my efforts to both be economical and yet also demonstrate that we don’t need to buy the world to show those we care about that we love and appreciate them.
But its also my way to demonstrate that I no longer believe in presents of indulgence or even foods of indulgence, when around me in the world there are people not even getting a meal on their plates.
I grew up in a house were we never did any of that. We had a kind of Christmas tree and as children we got one thing. Lunch was a nice bit of chicken and BBQ meats and some seafood with a giant salad and a nice home made Pavlova. That was it. Nothing more.
My parents never had to regret Christmas after and as children we knew and understood the day despite the different religious beliefs in my household, that the idea was a day of spending with your loved ones and just being thankful you had each other. I come from a both Christian and Jewish family.
Times have changed and if I can do anything before I leave this world, the one thing is to remind my children and theirs, that the most important things in life are the appreciation you have for each other and those around you.
