BEACH BABY

BEACH BABY

Today I’m off for the day with my friends to the beach. Well not in a bikini, it’s raining. Or drizzling. But we are still out and about as rain will go and the afternoon promises to be bright.

I’ve considered in investing in a blow up pool like Raindale’s Sulrance pool for the balcony. However the reality of that is, emptying it.

My daughter said just wait till night and tip it over the balcony.

As tempting as that idea is, I think I will skip it.

The guy downstairs would not be impressed and I’m sure would come bounding to my front door.

Hmmmm on Second thoughts, he is handsome and I could offer an apologetic beverage.

In the meantime my two bitches can protect me from the irate neighbours.

Let the flowers commence

Let the flowers commence

I’ve just popped to the shops and the sun was shining and I was quite chuffed that it looked like it’s going to be a jolly sunny day.

Well that was short lived. Clouds are suddenly in abundance.

My sunny outlook will remain in my mind as today is Friday and it means it’s nearly the WEEKEND!!!

I hope you all have a great day. The sun may not be shining for real, but my cheesy smile in this photo should remind you, it’s as sunny as we want it to be.

Do you slip, slop, slap?

Do you slip, slop, slap?

Despite my excitement when the sun comes out and baring the bod in it, I am always mindful of the damage it is capable of doing to us.

I always wear sunscreen and have done now for quite a few years given I did damage my skin when I was younger.

Being an Aussie I grew up in the some of the worst conditions in terms of how close it is to the equator and how strong that ultraviolet radiation is from the sun.

Would you believe when I was younger, the idea of being bronzed  was always about how healthy you looked. You looked good being tanned and I was one of those people who always  out on the beach in the sun for hours on end and was always throughout the year very tanned. I was like that until  we started to understand more about the damage the sun could do and the increasing rise of skin cancers.

Do you know when I was at school (this is how stupid we were back then). We would take baby oil to school and in our lunchbreaks slather it on our legs and arms and sit in the sun exposing our skin. I mean seriously we were barbecuing ourselves!

I still go out in the sun but I reserve it for mornings and no more than an hour . Most of the time I love being outside but will seek shade more often than not now days.

I have damaged my skin over the years. I worry that the brown melanin changes in my skin on both my face and arms and legs could change and I regularly check for anything that doesn’t look right.

I have to. My brother had a large cancer on his shoulder some years back. He was the one who didn’t worship the sun! But when he did go out, burnt himself like crazy.

Do you know even pets have their own sunscreens too? Yes they too can burn, and humans often forget that leaving their dear cats and dogs in the searing heat with a lot of water and no shade is equally as stupid.

So remember your umbrella if you are out, there is a reason they were made not just for the rain. Also remember, tanned hide like skin isn’t beautiful or healthy.

Its signs that your  skin  is changing and could kill you or even worse have you left with  disfigurement because of the sun.

Remember Slip, Slop Slap, Slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat. This was the message I began to grow up with once we learnt about the dangers.

Heres the video song. You will be singing it before long.
